Lower workplace absences

Figures from the Absences and Workplace Health Survey show that sickness absence dropped to 6.9 days on average for a public sector worker and 4.9 days for the private sector. These compare with average figures of 8.1 and 5.9 respectively in 2011.

According to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) around 12% of sickness absence isn’t for genuine reasons. However, this is disputed by the Trades Union Congress who also believe that many workers are under increasing pressure to report for duty when they are ill.
