New board director

The board of PHSC plc recently announced the appointment of Lorraine Young as a non-executive director. Lorraine has replaced Mike Miller.

Meet the Staff – Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth joined RSA/In House as the Technical Support Officer in 2013 after previously working for the company as a self-employed consultant one day per week. As a qualified health and safety professional and trainer, Elizabeth undertakes fee earning work for a number of the company’s smaller clients. Her main duties are to look after the queries that come in from schools covered by our SafetyMARK scheme, and assuming responsibility for the quality, technical checking and generation of reports. In addition, Elizabeth looks after the training side of the business.

QCS poised to offer advice on new ISO standards

The final draft versions of both ISO9001:2015 (Quality Management Systems) and ISO14001:2015 (Environmental Management) have been published.

PHSC plc subsidiary QCS International is now able to help clients to make plans to implement the necessary changes they need to ensure certification to the new standards, which are significantly different to the previous versions. PHSC Staff News: Paul Hackett

Paul is the latest recruit to the Personnel Health & Safety Consultants team. He is an experienced consultant and trainer, and has conducted OHSAS 18001 audits for companies in a wide range of sectors. These include food manufacturing, plastics, transport, electrical engineering and even the production of copper from the mining of the ore through to smelting and recycling. In his spare time, Paul leads a team of residents in the coppicing and restoration of small sections of woodland near his home.

Meet the staff – Leigh Simmonds

Leigh is Managing Director of Quality Leisure Management Limited, replacing Peter Mills who has taken a back seat ahead of retirement. Since joining as a Principal Consultant, Leigh has audited using the QLM Leisuresafe brand, delivered training, and given specialised advice to clients.

Leigh has worked across the leisure industry. His credentials include membership of CIMSPA, IOSH and IIRSM. Notably Leigh has worked with the HSE Policy Unit, developing national guidance. He has also been a category one responder for major incidents, acting as a Local Authority’s representative, liaising with emergency services and managing and calling forward Council resources to react and manage critical incidents.

Meet the staff: Ian Phillips

Ian has worked in QCS International for nearly five years and became Managing Director in January 2015. With a background in environmental consultancy he now includes quality as well as health and safety advice in his skillset. He hopes to build upon the excellent reputation that QCS currently enjoys and looks forward to the challenges associated with updates to both ISO9001 (Quality) and ISO14001 (Environmental Management Systems).

Ian enjoys training, both the design of courses and delivery to delegates throughout the UK. Ian’s team in QCS are prepared to assist clients in all things to do with quality, environmental, health and safety and medical device manufacture systems

Staff Profile: Dan Binns

Dan joined B to B Links Ltd in February 2014 in a key customer support role, and is completing an Apprenticeship in Business Administration with Farnborough College. He has particular responsibility for B2B’s busy and varied Technical Diary. The job involves processing requests for technical assistance on CCTV or security tagging, qualifying the requirement and programming an engineer to attend in a timely way.

Dan liaises with other staff to order equipment or parts, links with the warehouse team to ensure that these are on site in time, and provides feedback to enable accurate invoicing to clients.

Katie wins Bronze

PHSC-sponsored Taekwondo star Katie Bradley has won a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships held in Chinese Taipei. Aged 17, Katie is the current Junior British National Champion and holds both the Dutch and Belgian junior titles. Katie is now ranked number 1 in Europe for her category.

The bronze medal comes on top of more success in 2014, including becoming Luxembourg Open Champion in both Junior and Senior categories.
